How To Update Mobile Number With Aadhaar?

Link Mobile Number With Aadhaar

In general, there are three scenarios in which you can link a phone number with your Aadhaar account.

The first being auto-registering your phone number while getting your Aadhaar, the second is linking your phone number after obtaining an Aadhaar (non-linked account) and the third scenario is updating a new mobile number with your Aadhaar.

Let’s look into the details.

Scenario 1: Registering Mobile Number During Aadhaar Enrollment

While applying for Aadhaar card, an applicant has the option to provide a mobile number and the same gets registered with his/her Aadhaar card as well (auto-linking).

But if you have not linked your mobile number to Aadhaar during the enrollment, then you may have to follow Scenario 2.

Scenario 2: Linking Mobile Number After Getting An Aadhaar

The first question you might want to ask now is ‘can I update my mobile number in Aadhaar online?

If you have not registered your mobile number with Aadhaar yet or do not possess your Aadhaar-linked phone number anymore, then the answer is ‘no’.

This is because most online transactions are authenticated and updated through an OTP (One-Time Password) sent to the Aadhaar-registered mobile number.

So you must have a mobile number registered with Aadhaar to get the OTP for doing online updation.

Then, how do you update your phone number? Well, you must make a trip to the nearest Aadhaar enrolment center, fill out a form stating that you want to update your phone number in Aadhaar.

That means you are required to be present in-person. You also need to carry a copy of your Aadhaar card to the center.

Another way to update your Aadhaar details is by sending an application through Post to UIDAI.

You need to fill the Aadhaar Update Form available on the UIDAI portal and send the hard copy of the filled form along with supporting documents to UIDAI. You can send the form to either of the two addresses given below:

  1. UIDAI Post Box No. 10, Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh – 480001, India
  2. UIDAI Post Box No. 99, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – 500034, India

Scenario 3: Update New Mobile Number With Aadhaar Online

If you already have a mobile number linked to your Aadhaar account, but want to switch it to another mobile number, then the easiest route would be getting it done online through the Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal or by logging on the UIDAI website.

This will enable you to change your mobile number by entering just your Aadhaar number and OTP.

In some cases, you will be required to upload supporting documents of address and identity.

After this, you will be provided with an Update Request Number (URN) which you must keep for future reference.

You can also get your new mobile number updated in Aadhaar by sending a request via post or by visiting an Aadhaar Center.

Scenario 4: Update Aadhaar When Mobile Number Is Lost

If you have lost your current Aadhaar-enabled (registered) mobile number, then you have to either visit an Aadhaar Center or via post (explained in Scenario 2).

You cannot change the number online since you may not possess your lost mobile number to receive an OTP, which is a must for online updation.
